Case Study 3 - Understanding works

Family very grateful to Council.
Plan to prepare property for sale still WIP.
Council was paid in full.
Situation
The Ratepayer is elderly pensioner with multiple health issues.
The Ratepayer abandoned the property 7 years earlier, retiring to a neighbouring Shire.
The property was very fully furnished with possessions and memories of 30 years of living and raising family.
Council was reluctant to take legal action.
A debt recovery agency had tried to resolve situation by making Field Calls.
Resolution
We engaged the Ratepayer in compassionate discussions about the situation & wishes for the abandoned property.
Despite struggling financially, the Ratepayer was still paying insurance & electricity bills on the property.
Both properties showed signs of hoarding.
The Ratepayer had mixed feelings about selling the property, but believed that selling it was the sensible decision.
They stated that were incapable of sorting out the houseful of furniture & possessions, and has 3 adult children, but is too embarrassed to tell them & enlist support.
After supportive discussions, Ratepayer consented to us briefing one of adult children.
The family supported the Ratepayer to pay Council and made a plan to prepare the property for sale.
